The concrete jungle
Synopsis

A young aboriginal man named Gerard, whose home is the wild and his job title is survival, left without guidance or a role model as his native family are killed in a tragic accident during the night. Set in Thailand, Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Gerard) is confronted by an upper class family, The McCarthy’s, on a safari holiday. They offer to home him and help him become a civilised member of the public.

In the months leading up to the accident, Gerard began to ask questions about what life would be like as a normal boy living in the city of New York, and his encounter with the McCarthy’s birthed a new path of re-discovery, to examine and experience a ‘normal life’.  But are the McCarthy’s intentions all good?

After a shave, shower and suitable clothing, Gerard has traded in his connection with the great Mother Nature, for a life he assumed to be lived like the great Gatsby. Little did he know that the family later would exploit his inexperience and naivety to their advantage? Later that week the McCarthy’s manage to manipulate him into believing his role in society as a new citizen is to serve his ‘masters’ (referring to the McCarthy’s), forming a very business relationship between Gerard and his new family.

We see Gerard doing garden work home alone with Mr McCarthy, and he approaches Gerard, crouches down and whispers in his ear, you missed a spot followed by a demonic cackle. This is one of the most intense scenes in the film as this is the first point that Gerard feels emotion, and we as an audience watch him break down and all the emotions he didn’t know he had came out in one episode.

An origanl narrative with an emotional twist makes this romantic drama a 5 star hit!

In to the wild is an adventure film made in 2007, created to infuse the minds, strength and character of the audience. It is said to be an inspirational film based on a true story, about how a young man, accompanied by no one, leaves everything behind and heads off to live in Alaska. No human contact nor civilisation, just himself and his thoughts. I will use different views, thoughts and feelings from different characters in the film, and try to x-ray into how this film has a large emotional effect on the audience, what is it about the film that makes you feel this way? I will also break down the different emotions within the film and why they may be there.

First of all emotion is an uncontrolled act of sadness, happiness, anger and fear. Sometimes they come all at once, yet sometimes they don’t come at all. Emotion in film has become a very popular component, especially when the film can relate to real life situations. But what is the science behind emotions? Why does it have its methods of expression? Some may say there is no such thing as ‘bad emotions’, but it’s a fact that emotions linked to negativity are actually good for your well being. The birth of deep emotional films such as ‘the fault in our stars’ and ‘my sisters keeper’
